On 10/24/2019, our Project and Quality Manager Jano John Jansen da Silva shared with us at a seminar his improvement ideas and the technical tools to leverage planning and execution of our projects, whether in house or - and especially - those carried out at the client’s plant, bringing an efficiency and productivity gain to the steel chain.

Added value, legal responsibility, S Curve, Gantt chart, time tracking, team allocation, EAP, Kanban, burndown, and mainly risks and opportunities. Today, all of these are key in our routine. 📊📈📅

Jano has also been developing his knowledge, competence, and leadership further to enhance our Quality system. And we are proudly pleased to announce that, under the leadership of both him and Rafael Marques, we have achieved today the maintenance of our ISO 9001 certification from BVQI, this time without any registered nonconformity.

5 years without an accident with a leave of absence

How will you be five years from now?

It looks like a job interview, but it’s about corporate goals.

Five years ago, we established a zero-accident goal and drew an action plan with time frames, people in charge, and a time horizon. In the beginning, SIPATs (Occupational Accident Prevention Week), goals for managers, T-shirts. Then, audits, behavioral feedback, indicators, and some program with a four-letter name that is easy to remember.

Only then did we realize: it will always be about people.

The Company trains. It identifies and mitigates risks. It provides the PPE and creates an environment of transparency and trust, so that contributions can be encouraged. But the result comes from a sum of everyone’s actions. From the respect for each other and for the rules. By understanding and enhancing standards and procedures, in an action and monitoring cycle.

We have proudly completed more than 150 million accident-free seconds. A collective job, from registering a near miss, feeding a Bird’s triangle, to the shareholders’ decision to brought forward a 2023 Capex to this year, allowing us to accelerate our EH&S investments.

Congratulations to our team and thank you everyone who contributes and drives us to be better and better.

We remain focused. Safety is the only pillar in which yesterday’s success does not warrant today’s success.

Tecnosulfur makes donations to the "Projeto Acolher" project

Whenever possible, we proudly demonstrate our partnership with the Office of the Sete Lagoas City Secretary for Social Assistance, now through our contributions to the Projeto Acolher project, one of the main social units of that Office, which shelters people in a situation of extreme vulnerability.

Created in 2008, Acolher is a space dedicated to recovering human dignity. It has qualified professionals, including pedagogy practitioners, social assistants, psychologists, social educators, and general services, to serve especially people in a situation of absolute necessity, such as those who are homeless, unsheltered due to abandonment, migrants, or people unable to provide for themselves.

Once again, our team are also making their individual contributions and getting friends and family engaged. In addition, next Sunday, we’ll be promoting a special lunch for those registered with the Institution.

Those wanting to learn more about the Project or even leaving their contribution can visit Acolher at Rua Estrada dos Tropeiros 326. There, you will get to know touching stories of people who lost everything and have found a new hope or even the gathering of a mother and her son 20 years later, thanks to the Project.

This is giving back to shareholders, to the environment, and to society. This is our role.

Tecnosulfur launches Covid-19 prevention campaign and its Contingency Plan

Tecnosulfur has been quickly adapting to the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Since March 20, we have been focusing on preserving the health of our staff and the health of our businesses and full compliance with high ESG standards, including, but not limited to, by:

(a) supporting environmental actions,

(b) engaging in inclusion and diversity campaigns,

(c) promoting donations for those who are most in need,

(d) tracing and mitigating risks and capturing opportunities for investment by shareholders, and

(e) strengthening our in-house procedures guided by ISO, IFRS, and IBGC.

We have restricted the access to our premises as much as possible, encouraging people to work in a home working scheme. At our premises, additional PPE was made available, such as individual masks and many disinfecting alcohol dispensers. Besides, our communication channels have been enhanced, especially our LinkedIn profile and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., preventing fake news from getting in the way of our business and providing adequate psychological support to our people.

And we keep working. Although the steel market has sustained a 30% loss in sales, Tecnosulfur has not yet fired any of its employees on account of the pandemic. On the other hand, we have hired even more skilled people, especially to strengthen our innovation areas and ESG and develop our talents to be the next generation. This is a consistent part of our long-term growth plan.

Just like other companies and segments, in spite of all of our efforts, this virus has a random effect and some of us have been infected in the last few months. Fortunately, all of them are safe and sound now and, as part of our ongoing effort, we are launching this month of December the 4th review of our Contingency Plan, establishing clear actions based on a look to past and recent events, as well as future scenarios.

Tecnosulfur’s Partnership with Black Jaguar Foundation

Did you know that...

Last Tuesday we celebrated the “Giving Day”? The date was created in 2012 under the name “Giving Tuesday” right after the “Black Friday” as a way of promoting a culture of giving and stimulating actions associated with circular economy and conscious capitalism.

This year, on #Giving Day, Capitalismo Consciente Brasil has taken an important step to contribute towards the preservation of our natural resources and protection of our biodiversity. In partnership with the Black Jaguar Foundation, they made a donation for tree planting in the surroundings of the Araguaia river, on behalf of their members, thus contributing to one of the world’s largest reforestation projects: the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor, where the replanting of native trees helps compensate for greenhouse gases and restore the biodiversity of the Amazon’s Cerrado area.

Our honor and gratitude for ICCB has helped turn the wheel of motivation that drives us to always do more: for people, for the company, and for the environment and society.

By donating even more trees on behalf of each and every one of our people, we hope that one day we can together visit and see the fruit of this beautiful project.

Tecnosulfur launches its campaign to prevent Covid-19 and its Contingency Plan

Tecnosulfur has been adapting rapidly to the challenges brought by the pandemic.

Since March 20, we have focused on preserving the health of our people, the health of our businesses and full compliance with high standards for ESG, including, but not limited to:

(a) supporting environmental actions,
(b) engaging in campaigns for inclusion and diversity,
(c) promoting donations for those who need it the most,
(d) tracking and mitigating risks & catching opportunities for the shareholders’ investment, and
(e) reinforcing our internal procedures guided by ISO, IFRS and IBGC.

We limit access to our facilities as much as possible, encouraging people to work in the home-office model. In the facilities, additional PPE was provided, such as individual masks and several places for cleaning. And we keep working. Despite the steel market having suffered a 30% loss in sales, Tecnosulfur has not yet dismissed any of its employees due to the pandemic. On the other hand, we hire even more qualified people, mainly to strengthen our areas of innovation and ESG and develop our talents to be the next generation. This is a consistent part of our long-term growth plan.

Tecnosulfur campaign for Blue November

Every day, 42 men die from prostate cancer, and approximately 3 million live with the disease. It is the second leading cause of death by cancer in men in Brazil, with estimates as high as 68,220 new cases for this year, according to data from INCA.

Next 11/17, we celebrate the World Prostate Cancer Awareness Day, a date that has given birth to the Blue November movement. For that reason, we encourage you to undergo an examination this week. For you and your family.

Early detection is a strategy to finding an early-stage tumor and thus enable better treatment chances. It can be done through investigation, with clinical exams, such as digital rectal exam and blood work, to assess the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) dose.

Every year, around 600 thousand women lose their lives as a consequence of the devastating effects of breast cancer, a total that equals the Covid-19 statistics.

This calls our attention to the seriousness of what is the fifth leading cause of death by cancer in general and the most frequent one among women.

Self-exam and prevention campaigns usually show people smiling and overproduced pictures, while the reality is far more shocking, to a point that we cannot stay indifferent. There certainly is much life after breast cancer, and female health care should be carefully ensured, especially now that tracing and treatment actions have been jeopardized and are just resuming due to the global pandemic.

Pink October aims to share information and promote awareness about the disease, providing a broader access to the diagnosis and treatment services and contributing to reduce mortality. In this regard, we are promoting in house technical lectures and presentations on this topic and encouraging our female workers to undergo a diagnostic examination.

Tecnosulfur makes donations to Vila Vicentina – Elderly home

Last week, we made a donation to Vila Vicentina, an institution for elderly people in Sete Lagoas-MG, of several home utensils with aims to improve the structure offered to their residents, such as beds, mattresses, and a stove, and other items.

We strongly believe in our role as leading social players and make it one of our responsibility pillars towards our stakeholders: a concern about people and the welfare of society, especially in view of the situation that we are all currently facing.

Not only through our products can we contribute towards the development of a productive chain. We can also do so by strengthening our alignment with better and better practices regarding the environment, society, and the principles of governance. And, on top of it all, by encouraging by example.

TECNOSULFUR BECOMES REFRATECHNIK STEEL'S AMBASSADOR IN BRAZIL

Tecnosulfur S.A. and Refratechnik Steel announced on 04/01/20 the beginning of a partnership in Brazil to expand their portfolio of solutions for the steel industry.


With 30 years of experience in the market, Tecnosulfur is a leader in solutions and technology for the treatment of liquid metals in the steel industry through products such as desulfurizing agents, de-phosphorants, sintered products, fluxing agents and cover powders; as well as specialized equipment and services. With annual sales exceeding R $ 100 million, Tecnosulfur has also just implemented the Lean Manufacturing model at its unit in Sete Lagoas-MG.

Present on the six continents and more than 25 countries, the German Refratechnik celebrates its 70th anniversary, acting in several segments, from fertilizers to civil construction. Through its subsidiary Refratechnick Steel the company expects to increase its presence in the Brazilian territory, having Tecnosulfur as a commercial agent for its refractories' line, mainly carbon-magnesium base for LF, BOF and EAF, and its high-tech product Macarbon. ©

The companies haven't disclosed the preliminary projections for the synergies, sales increase and market share, but reinforced the long-term mutual commitment.

According to Marko Uhlig, Tecnosulfur's CCO, the company continues to "believe in the Brazilian economy and in the steel industry as one of the pillars of growth and sustaining the world economy. In this sense, despite being experiencing a unique moment of social isolation and measures of contingency, we continue our focus on building bridges for the future, while maintaining the health of our people as a priority".

The company took the opportunity to reinforce the actions that has taken to keep the supply chain productivity running, while preventing the spread of the virus.
